Therapeutic ultrasound is a procedure that utilizes sound waves to treat injured muscles, joints, and soft tissues. The sound waves vibrate the tissues back and forth, creating a deep, micro-massage effect. Ultrasound helps to decrease joint stiffness, muscle spasms, and also helps to decrease inflammation. The sound waves also help speed up the healing process by stimulating the cells responsible for cell and tissue repair. Ultrasound is often used on bursitis, tendonitis, sprains/strains, plantar fasciitis and nerve entrapments.
